What We're Learning This Week!
Reading
We are reading about community helpers this week. Some books the students will experience this week are On the Town by J. Caseley and When I Grow Up: An Alphabet Book of Occupations by P.K. Hallinan. In our reading groups, students will read informational texts about various community helpers.
Math
This week in math we are studying patterns. Students will work to extend patterns based on colors, shapes, sizes, and letters. Here's an example of a pattern your child will extend:
To solve this pattern, students will identify the colors that make up the pattern (green, orange, yellow). They will circle the pattern, then use it to fill in the blank. Here's a link to learn more about how to solve patterns: How to Solve a Math Pattern Links to an external site..
Science
In science this week, we're going to begin studying weather. According to the our 2nd grade science standards, students will learn about:
- how and why weather changes
- how we can observe weather (through our 5 senses)
- seasonal weather patterns
Here's a video about odd weather patterns that you and your child might find interesting!
Social Studies
Our social studies unit is connected to our reading for the week. This week, students will be learning about community helpers. Some helpers that we will study include nurses, sanitation works, waiters, and teachers. We will have a couple of guest speakers on Friday!
